Excellent for a Bible Study or adult Sunday School class
By Chris Meirose
Call it a primer on systematic theology.
Wayne Grudem's 1264-page Systematic Theology was first published in 1994. In 1999, Jeff Purswell edited it down to a 528-page version, titled Bible Doctrine. Now, Zondervan has publish a 144-page version, edited by Wayne's son, Elliot, titled Christian Beliefs: Twenty Basics Every Christian Should Know.
Here are the topics covered in this new version:
What is the Bible?
What is God like?
What is the Trinity?
What is creation?
What is prayer?
What are angels and demons?
What is man?
What is sin?
Who is Christ?
What is the atonement?
What is the resurrection?
What is election (or predestination)?
What does it mean to become a Christian?
What are justification and adoption?
What are sanctification and perseverance?
What is death?
What is the church?
What will happen when Christ returns?
What is the final judgment?
What is heaven?
I think that this would be an ideal book for Sunday School classes, and especially for memberships classes--as well as a wonderful tool for discipleship in the faith. Review and application questions are included to facilitate discussion. I taught it to a group of 30 people over 20 weeks with ages ranging from 10-90 and everyone got something out of it.

Excellent.
By Marcus
Have been walking through this book with my son and have really enjoyed it. It provides very good explanations for some very hard to grasp concepts. This is a book I hope to go through with each of my children in order to strengthen their understanding of God and His plan. I hope they keep their own copies of the book as a reference for the future. I have very much enjoyed that this is not a book of personal beliefs, but it is a book that clearly shows what the Scriptures teach on a given topic. I feel like I have grown in my understanding of God as I have walked through this with my son. I have used the Systematic Theology text to delve deeper into a few of the topics, and it is nice that those two books match up so well. Highly recommend.

Good Basic Resource
By Pastor John
An extreme abridgement of Grudem's systematic theology, we will be using this as a text for bible studies in our church, as a kind of discussion starter, with the teachers doing full preparation to guide the discussion and to be equipped to answer questions. Thoroughly orthodox, It is a good tool for bible studies, discipleship, and especially for evangelism to those who profess faith in Christ, but show no evidence of repentance or the new birth.
My one knock on it is that Grudem's son, who did the abridgement, is a little more charismatic than his father and that bleeds through into some areas of theology that are entirely unrelated to the gifts. Notably there seems to be a presuppositional expectation of extra-biblical leading from God that leaks through in many places. That said this is not enough to to prevent me from heartily recommending this work. (As always and with all things test it against scripture.)
This is also a helpful study guide available for free download from the Acts 29 Network (just google it).
