This book is thought-provoking and brings together theories of Capital, Interest, Money, and a variety of other topics. Professor Taylor's quest for a macroeconomic analysis of the economic framework will lead all of you to understand many things that you may have had questions about. For those with majors in Economics and/or Finance, this book is a must, and I guarantee that, if you try, you will most certainly learn something from it. This work is in my opinion comparable to that of Schumpeter and Keynes--giving analysis to better our understanding of the macroeconomic framework. A warning though-this book must be read and re-read for a complete understanding, for it can get tiring to follow along when almost every sentence makes a new point. It is well worth the effort, however, because the knowledge you will gain will equal that of the time you spend reading it. Buy it NOW!!

I was stunned by the creative thinking that Dr Taylor displayed in his seminal work on capitalism. He may well be the most brillaint and innovative thinker of this decade in terms of economic and capital theory. My hope is that as many people as possible expose themselves to his creative intellect; no one who does will regret it.

Wonderful Prologue to Eastern Approaches

This book is a wonderful prologue to the fine book Eastern Approaches. A great historical reminder that what we find in the Middle East today is simply a continuation of what Vambery found in 1869 or so. America's foreign policy, so twisted by hubris and the myth of "American Exceptionalism," could benefit from a historical perspective and a dose of realpolitik. Perhaps then, America would not rush in where angels fear to tread.

This is the Book I Needed

I just received Windows 10 Simplified by Paul McFedries. And it has already helped me understand how to solve a problem with Windows 10 that I was having. This book is very well written, nicely illustrated and easy to use with both a table of contents and an index. The title might suggest that the information in the book could be one of those 'talk down' publications for computer newbies, but it is certainly more than that without being overly technical or full of nerdy words and jargon that only experts can decipher.
The book is well organized and provides sections specific to subject areas like 'getting started', 'email', 'Working with pictures', 'Surfing the Web and 'Customizing the System'. I found clearly presented instructions for all of the major features unique to Windows 10.
This is an excellent source for those seeking to get the best from the new operating system during the startup stages as well as a place to find help with specific subjects at any time.

Literally, "A Picture is WORTH a Thousand Useless Words!"

Okay, I ordered this book because I am a VERY visual learner and after I abandoned the "Windows 10 for Dummy's book", I was desperate to learn this new system beyond the most rudimentary of knowledge. For people like ME, I absolutely NEED basic because I have to learn to crawl before I walk or run.

See, I'm a landscape architect. I deal in "absolutes" my entire day: soil, sun, water, shovels, hoses, etc. There are HUGE landscape companies that are friends of mine that STILL have no computer in their office and do all their billing by hand and all of their appointments, etc. with paper and pen! So, I have a really good excuse for NOT KNOWING BASIC ANYTHING regarding computers and I am delighted with this book!

First, IT'S IN COLOUR!!! I'm visual...me like colour! Second, if you know ANYTHING, when the book shows you what a "mouse pointer" looks like, you feel SMART, which encourages you to learn more. Third, for those of us that this book was designed for, you'll feel like a frickin' Whiz Kid, when you get done with even one chapter! I've flipped through the entire book beyond chapter one and I had NO IDEA that so many features were available.

My 'down season' is Winter, so that's when I plan on going page by page each day. After that time, I'll come back and update my review, but for now, I'm beyond DELIGHTED with the concept and the chance to teach 'this old dog some very new tricks!'

Excellent Undergrad Text

Overall this is an excellent text for an undergraduate level course. It is the 3rd book on the subject that I've read and the best of the lot. It is much more conprehensive than the others, but does not get into the details of some graduate level books.

The content deserves a 5 star, but I gave it 4 stars overall because of a couple shortcomings. The graphics don't convey the 3 dimensionality of the anatomy. All of my anatomy texts do a far better job representing internal structures, and this becomes extremely important.

2nd, there are some areas overemphasized, some omissions, and a problem with the order of presentation. The chapter on attention tells me that one of the authors researches in this area. Sorry, it doesn't warrant a chapter. You know you're on the wrong track when you spend an entire page just explaining the minutiae of a single experiment. Second, there was no mention of intelligence. Yes it's a hotbutton issue. No excuse for ignoring it. Finally, issues were raised, such as fear or emotions, that use the same structure. It would be helpful to discuss the anatomy in more detail early on instead of introducing structures piecemeal.

Overall an excellent book.

Basic Overlook of Neuroscience

This book is really good for a general understanding of neuroscience and it has good pictures. This is really a beginning undergraduate level book and can be used as supplemental material for basic concepts when a student is starting to become more advanced, but it does not go into much detail. It is well-written and consequently easy to read. If you're looking for an introduction to neuroscience this is a good book. If you're looking for a reference book for higher level neuroscience this book won't meet standards.

Perfect Textbook

This is a wonderful textbook, and like only a very few others I have read, is well written and interesting enough to be read as an excellent book. It is quite difficult to put down and I think most readers will find themselves reading more than is required for their class or reading it for pleasure alone. It is not a complete exhaustive reference on every topic in neuroscience, but it does not pretend to be (and I think it would lose some of its appeal to the intended audience if it did). For example, the brief mention of glial cells in chapter 2 was a little disappointing, then again, I have a textbook of close to a thousand pages on glial cells alone, but I think a little more coverage could have been given. But, there are additional resources given, which allows interested students to further explore concepts they have been introduced to in this text.

There is something to be said for a text that can be read cover to cover, with little strain, and give the reader a clear overview of the field.

Excellent!

As a long-time Chinese teacher, I have found "Making Connections" (either 1st or 2nd edition) to be an excellent piece of supplemental material for my students. The recordings cover a wide range of relevant topics. And best of all, they are largely unscripted, giving a truly authentic flavor. This is one of the best materials ever for helping students to improve their listening skills. The book gives a variety of activities for each chapter to gauge comprehension.

A couple of things to note: (1) The text does NOT contain any transcriptions of the dialogues. The book accompanying the downloadable audio files is designed to provide activities for the student based on the material he has heard, but the dialogues themselves are not written down. (2) While the publisher states that this book can be used at all levels, it is most effective after a student has had at least one year of Chinese. While it is true that beginners can listen to the dialogues to see what simple information they can gather (e.g., names, nationalities, etc.), the dialogues are designed for students already familiar with some basic Chinese structures and vocabulary. Beginners, and even advanced beginners, can expect to miss a lot of the information. However, this should not be a problem if the instructor recognizes the modest steps beginning Chinese students make.

The dialogues themselves are interesting, covering a wide variety of topics, clearly articulated, and very colloquial in nature, often making them preferable to audio clips for textbook dialogues, or at least an excellent supplement to them. A significant amount of Chinese culture is also taught through these dialogues, increasing their value and effectiveness as a learning tool to strengthen listening comprehension.

I could only wish that some company would work on simpler colloquial dialogues in the same vein but truly geared towards the absolute or early beginner. "Making Connections" is a superb tool for the audience for which is was designed. It would be ideal if it could be preceded by more elementary material. Such material, alas!, is hard to find. But this text is wonderful, and the Chinese teacher who has intermediate students---or very motivated advanced beginners---would miss a great teaching tool if s/he were not to use this resource.

This is ok as a supplement for a Chinese teacher to go over the conversation with you.

But for self study I would not recommend it because it does not have the transcripts to the dialogues. If it did I would recommend this book and probably rank it 5 stars.

Anthony Podlecki is professor emeritus at the University of British Columbia. Educated at Holy Cross College, Oxford University and the University of Toronto, he taught at Northwestern University and Pennsylvania State University before joining the staff of the University of British Columbia in 1975. He has translated various Greek tragedies and has written several books on Athenian history.

About the Author
Mike Barlett's debut play, My Child (2007), saw him hailed by The Stage as 'one of the most exciting new talents to emerge in recent times'. In 2009, Cock won the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre, while Contractions was nominated for the TMA Best New Play award. Bartlett was Pearson Playwright in Residence at the Royal Court in 2007, and is currently Associate Playwright at Paines Plough. Euripides (484-406 BC) was a Greek dramatist. The last major tragic playwright of the classical world, he has also been called "the first modern".

It does the job

Kwintner's edition, being part of the Bryn Mawr series, will get you through the Greek if you're approaching the text early in your career. Don't expect extensive information about the Medea myth or Attic tragedy or copious literary or cultural notes, since Kwintner focuses on morphology, vocabulary (she does seem fond, however, of pointing out the odd instance of chiasmus). Be aware that there are errors in the text: on at least two occasions there was a superfluous omega with iota-subscript instead of a space between two words. There were also parts in the commentary that my professor disputed, but make of that what you will. In terms of the book's physical construction, the spiral-binding is beyond irritating: I found it impossible to open and close with ease. The paper is also cheap, even by comparison to other entries in the BMC series: in terms of durability, it's somewhere between a newspaper and a photo-copy.

Considering the low price and target audience, these are forgivable faults, but skip this volume and proceed directly to Mastronarde's Cambridge edition if you don't need the linguistic hand-holding.

Find another edition if you can

Euripides' Medea is essential reading for any Greek student but Kwintner's edition doesn't really do it justice. There are a lot of bizarre typos in the Greek text -- and a beginning Greek student will have a hard enough time with a perfect text, let alone one that's been messed up by the editor. I bought this for a course and shortly afterward switched to the edition by Denys L. Page. Apparently the Cambridge edition is also very worthwhile.

Fine performance enriches Medea for listener

This fine production shows how hard Medea is to stage even in audio. The power is dissipated when Medea screeches her anger. Her quiet is stronger than her loud. Listening to this performance deepens our feeling for this great play.

Love this gift

I bought this gift for my husband on his birthday. I had recently bought a sex one last year for Valentine's Day and we never really used it because the coupons were just a little too much to do at most times especially with us having a child around. We never used them. This coupon book is more realistic and it brings a level of passion to the relationship.

Great... But be cautious. The product is great, the book itself is also wonderful. It's my wife that worries me... I stupidly said to her "You don't have to cut them out, just show me the coupon and i'll honor it..." BIG MISTAKE. So for her 24th Birthday on August 24th, she was having breakfast in bed, whilst I massage her feet and I'm dressed in HER FAVORITE LINGERIE.
