About the Author
C. Peter Wagner, PhD, holds graduate degrees in theology, missiology, and religion from Fuller Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, and the University of Southern California. He served as a field missionary in Bolivia for 16 years and he taught on the faculty of the School of Intercultural Studies at Fuller Seminary for 30 years. The author of 70 books, Wagner ministers extensively nationally and internationally from his home base in Colorado.

An Intersting Study

This is a meaty book, and well worth the time. It is written to be engaging, not just dry commentary, but exciting application and interesting history to read as well. I don't like all of Wagner's books, but this one taught me much.

A Fresh Look at a Familiar Book

I use this as a textbook in a classroom to help new Christians understand the roots of the Christian faith as well as the nuances of evangelism and church growth. What's distinguishes this from traditional commentaries is the emphasis on missiology (missionary work and church planting) since so much of Peter Wagner's life experience centers on that subject. While the book is easy to read, it is not a shallow in depth. It will increase your awareness of how each segment of the early church was built with indigenous people - a pattern that is still working all over the world today.

A scholarly and practical commentary that "makes Acts real today"

Dr. C. Peter Wagner is a scholar. But not just a scholar and teacher in mission training schools, he began as a missionary, and then also has been involved in shaping missions and the church, reforming them to Biblical contours. This commentary on Acts is in the same vein. It is not an ivory tower work, but is not for that reason less than scholarly. Rather, with scholarly study, Dr. Wagner sets forth Acts for what it is: not merely a historical book (though it is that!), but a book to show all subsequent generations of the followers of Jesus what can be expected. Dr. Wagner does not flinch from the hard questions, or make experience his guide. Rather, he allows the eternal Word of God in the book of Acts to be the standard for the church - the Ekklesia of Jesus, Messiah of Israel.
In a public meeting to celebrate Passover in April 2012 (Hebrew year 5772), Chuck Pierce, one of Dr. Wagner's closest associates in the prayer movement to open new fields to make known the gospel of the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ, said this to Peter: "I know you are capable because you're a historian and you've got the best commentary on Acts that has ever been written because it makes Acts real today." This sums up my reason for adding this book to my extensive library of commentaries.
