This collection of poems introduces 16 hardworking vehicles, from a little street sweeper tidying up the neighborhood to a mighty semi barreling down the highway. In the framework verse, three children are invited to try out the trucks. While the verse concentrates on the accomplishments of each vehicle, the illustrations show the kids (and sometimes their cheerful canine companion) in the driver’s seats. The rhythmic, rhyming verse is expressive as well as informative. The text may be a bit long for the youngest truck fans, but they will be captivated by the lively artwork. In contrast to Slonim’s lovely landscape paintings in The Deer Watch (2013), here his energetic acrylic-and-charcoal pictures animate the industrious trucks, creating amusing facial expressions from headlights, bumpers, and other seemingly immobile features. The final spread gathers all the vehicles together and, with the turn of a page, transforms them into toy trucks moved about by the children. Fun for reading aloud, especially one-on-one. About the Author
Hope Vestergaard, a former early childhood teacher, is the author of several books for children. She lives with her husband and two sons, as well as cows, horses, pigs, and dogs, on a small farm outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
David Slonim is an award-winning illustrator of many children’s books, including The Deer Watch by Pat Lowery Collins. He lives with his wife, four kids, and a dog named Maggie in Indiana.

LOVE this book!!!

We have almost every single construction book made for kids...and this is our new favorite! The pictures are great, but what I love most is how pleasant it is to READ. All of the rhymes work perfectly and are easy to read out loud. I can't stand when rhyming books don't really rhyme. This one is extremely well written! My 3 year old son wants to read it every day. The other very interesting thing that I love about this book is its use of "he" and "she." Half of the trucks are referred to as he...and the other half as SHE. This is the first kids construction book I've ever seen that assumes the trucks might be girls too. Its a subtle thing, but might be important for someone with a little girl who loves trucks...
I liked this book so much that I've already ordered another one as a gift!

Fantastic compilation of odes to trucks for a toddler

My 2 year old LOVES this book. We've read it so much over the past few weeks that she can recite huge chunks from memory. The last page asks the reader what truck they'll be, and she goes through everyone in the family, assigning them trucks. Very fun.
Warning, it is a longer book--there's basically a poem for each vehicle--so it takes longer than I'd like for a bedtime book. But, you can skip a couple vehicles if needed (and if your kid will let you).
I'm also happy that the book portrays both girls and boys driving and playing with trucks and refers to some trucks as "he" and others as "she". My daughter is obsessed with trucks, and some truck books only show boys and/or personify all the trucks as male.

This colorful book is a fun read for children and adults ! I particularly love the illustrations and am planning to give copies to my grandchildren for Christmas!!
