Basic book, but you need the basics to succeed.
By Chris Jaronsky
This book is 100 basic ideas that mean business. That will be a hard thing to sell because everybody wants more than just the basics. Too bad, because if you do not master the basics, you will fail. I like this book because it resonates with me. I push my teams to do the basics. If you handle the simple things, the more complicated items fall into place. Everybody today wants to run, but you have to walk first.

Jack Nadel took his 65 years of business experience and distilled it down to 100 thoughts. This thin book is an easy read and I bet you will come across a few thoughts that mean something to you. The book talks about creating partnerships with vendors, banks, and customers. Everyone should get something rewarding out of a deal, or it is a failed deal.

A few thoughts I really liked,
-Understand your strengths and weaknesses. Pretty basic, but most people wrongly think they can do everything.

-Don't fall in love with your idea. An idea is good, but if you are clouded with love for it you will make bad decisions.

-If you can't explain your product or service in 30 seconds, you probably can't sell it. Self-explanatory.

-Volume is for ego, profit is what you take to the bank. How many struggling businesses are high volume? I used to deal with a very high volume car dealership and the owner used to joke about how he "sold every car below cost." I asked how he made a profit and his answer was "volume." While I always laughed at that comment, I do see companies trading volume for profit. If you are making $1 profit on one item and you give a customer 100 of those items at 50 cents off each item, you are now losing half your profit on each item. This happens every day. Profit is what matters.

-Always confirm your agreements in writing. I use this thought all the time. You have a conversation and agree to certain things, then when the written contracts come out they are different. Happens all the time. After I have a conversation I write it all down immediately after hanging up the phone or finishing the meeting, and send that email to the other party as a reminder of what we discussed. Then later if the contracts are different I bring out the email and get everything clarified.

There may not be anything in this book that you have not read or heard before. But I like it because it is a great reminder of the 100 basic things you need to be doing in business. Jack Nadel learned these things through mistakes he made. You can learn from his 65 years of experience, or you can ignore them and make your own mistakes.

Read in Short Bursts, Achieve Epiphany Moments
By A dad
You can see in his websites and blog that Jack Nadel is very successful. He has a lot of people working for him too (you should see the photo of Michelle Kajan on the top of his blog page called Jack Nadel International News). In this book he gives 100 simple but profound tips to achieving business success. I've read a lot of books in the genre, and everything he says rings true even though he sometimes makes it seem simple.

The format of this book is to present the simple idea, explain it, and then provide Nadel's real life experience using the principle. Each of these principles occurs on just one page. The ideas are profound, so take time to think about each one separately and return again at your leisure.

Nadel is the voice of authority. He knows sales, but you'll see that when you visit his site and see the images there. What he says about accountants and their services demonstrated that he knows what he's talking about. In my experience as a CPA, I've never met a talented salesperson that understands how to work with accountants and who wasn't already wealthy.

Nadel tells us how to stay out of trouble. If we follow the principles he discovered through experience, we'll retain enough humility to not let success ruin us. His ideas show time and again why it's far better to be the nice one in a business deal, contrary to the many enticing messages that assault us in our daily lives. In a deal, you leave something on the table for the other guy. This is the voice of Jack guiding us, encouraging us, and helping us to learn properly from our own experience.

Very good business advice which could also be used in daily life
By Israel Drazin
Jack Nadel, the author of this idea-filled volume, is a leader in the sales promotion industry and has created thousands of new jobs and hundreds of products. He offers his readers one hundred of his best ideas of how people can become successful.

Nadel writes that people have skills that they can use to become successful. They only need to learn how to use them. Each of his hundred ideas is stated simply and understandably and is supplemented by an example of how he used the idea in his own life. These examples are clear, to the point, and inspire readers to imitate him.

For instance, his first idea is to find a need and fill it. He tells how he heard that the Chinese government was searching for navy blue woolen material to make uniforms. No navy blue material was available. He bought army olive drab from army surplus, dyed it navy, and made money.

He suggests that people need to know their strengths and weaknesses. He tells how he realized he was not good in handling details and hired a person to do the details while he spent his time selling, which he is good at. He tells us not to fall in love with an idea. He relates how he thought a particular idea was great, but didn't consider that he didn't really feel like doing it. He writes that people should not do the work until they have a commitment to buy the work; his wife had a catering business and did not start work until a contract was signed.

Other suggestions of how to be successful include: Listen, think positive, project energy; If you can't explain your product in 30 seconds, you probably can't sell it; Have a good marketing plan; It's okay to lose a battle as long as you win a war; Always confirm agreements in writing; Never use ultimatums; Don't bluff; Unless you work hard, talent is wasted.

In summary, Jack Nadel's one hundred ideas and examples are helpful, and they are interesting to read.
