About the Author

Meredith “Mark” Gall, professor emeritus, has a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. He was an R & D specialist at the Far West Laboratory for Educational Research and Development and then a professor of education at the University of Oregon, where he served in various capacities, including head of teacher education and director of graduate studies in curriculum and instruction. His specializations include research methodology, teacher development, teaching strategies, and the psychology of studying. He has served on the editorial boards of several journals, including the Journal of Experimental Education, Journal of Educational Research, and Elementary School Journal. Among his other book publications are Educational Research: An Introduction and Clinical Supervision and Teacher Development.

 

Joyce P. “Joy” Gall has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. She has worked as a trainer-developer at the Far West Laboratory for Educational Research and Development, the American Institutes for Research, ROLM Corporation, and the University of Oregon. Her specializations include educational leadership, the psychology of studying, and training and development in education and industry. Her other books include Educational Research: An Introduction, Making the Grade, Help Your Son or Daughter Study for Success, and Tools for Learning: A Guide to Teaching Study Skills.

Excellent book that explains the components of educational research

Excellent book that explains the components of educational research. It is well written and easy for the average reader to comprehend. It does not go into depth about statistics but rather explains how to set up a research project and then write the various components of the paper based upon the research style you choose: Literature Review; Descriptive; Comparative; Experimental; etc. It also covers issues with internal and external validity factors. This has been one of the most helpful textbooks I have actually both read and used in college.

A name of a Nazi that he is willing to climb heaven and earth to find. All the more reason to capture an old thug who lives in the outskirts of D.C. while living life to the full. Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Shamir would pay a cool one million dollars for the man known as the "Beast of Belsen" in hopes of being reelected. One Josef Kramer is now in the anonymous international spotlight. The former SS commandant who was thought to be hanged - unknowingly escaped while another officer was hanged in his stead. Hightower puts Lane on a fast-track to Dublin, Ireland. Where Lane and his Alpha Team meet up with Storm McGinty who will help in the hunt. The embarrassed Royal Family find out that Kramer had bribed a British colonel in order to get out of prison, and that he was still alive and may have an escape story to tell to the press. Lane is thick in the mix and knows who else is right there with him. The British SAS and the Russian mafia do not want Kramer captured and want him dead. The Texan finds himself in a scandalous race where the only rule is his rule. Where the only truth is more lies.

I am fond of thrill and suspense stories. I love reading books that keep me engaged and connected with the story of the book. And this book did the same. I found this book really exciting and entertaining. It reminded me of the amazing and suspenseful stories about secret agents of old times. Since the book is based on a real life Nazi hunt, it is indeed a reading pleasure. I really enjoy the way the author plotted the life of early twentieth century, when many felonies, confrontations and wars were going on. Having a crime solving thriller genre makes the book even more interesting as twists and turns in the story are quite unexpected in a surprising way. Despite using fiction characters, it is written in such a way that it has full grip on readers mind. If you are looking for a book full of suspense and thrill, this is a one good book to read.

This first installment of the Lujack Lane series made me think back to the wonderfull spy thrillers of old, like Boys from Brazil and Day of the Jackal with it's action, it's carefull character interactions, and the feeling that no one is safe and no one except your gun can be trusted.

Base on the real life nazi hunt, this thriller is fast paced, action filled and chilingly realistic, the plot line is not something that could happen, rather it was something that did happen, and although the characters are fictional, that only leads credability to the truth that 'real life is stranger than fiction'

Can't wait to read the next book!

Lieutenant Paul remained in London for the duration of the War, surviving Nazi bombs and providing support for the Normandy invasion, before returning to Canada where he met his four year old son for the first time. Red Devils and Heroes is the story of the Nerissa. It is the story of the heroes who fought in the war, the heroes who remained at home, and the heroes who never made it home. A well-written book - an episode in WWII largely forgotten until now.

My uncle was a steward on the Nerissa and sadly one of the casualties. It was through family research that I learned about the Nerissa . The SS Nerissa was the only ship transporting Canadian troops to England in WWII to get torpedoed. Unfortunately, during the war much of the news was censored so it was left to survivors to tell their stories after the war. Lt. Russell Paul's journal starts the day he left on the train from Ontario, Canada, to the day he returned home after the war. His thoughts and dreams of his family play out like an intense human drama. Using Russell's journal, other survivor reports, official documents (British, Canadian and German), newspaper reports, and archival material, Kevin Paul poignantly reconstructs the panic, horror, confusion, and courage of an episode in the war that was largely forgotten until now. My sincere thanks to Kevin for writing this book. It's not only a tribute to his grandfather, but to all who sailed on the Nerissa on that fateful journey. A well-written book, I highly recommend it.

Must-Read!

I loved the book! Yes, the author took a few liberties, but as far as names of people, places, real events, and dates - they can be verified. The author took liberties with some of the small talk on the train, the boats, etc. He even includes real journal entries his grandfather wrote while in England. This is a true story about the author's grandfather's call to war during a very dangerous time to cross the Atlantic. German U boats were lying in wait to sink any boat which might be a help to the enemy. The story kept me on the edge of my seat most of the time, and had me sniffling back tears during some of it. Definitely worth a read!

Awesome book. I have passed the book around to my mother and husband. They both enjoyed it. So real as if I was watching the events unfold. I'm so glad I got this while my mother was in Dr. Paul's care. Very good reading.
